Classroom situations in India

With the focus on ensuring inclusion in Tamil Nadu, we have partnered with Samagrah Shiksha Abhiyan to implement our inclusive curriculum and App based learning platform in Tamil Nadu. The three-year project will focus on implementing inclusive pedagogy to strengthen the Foundation Literacy and Numeracy for all students.

The project was piloted in 3 districts namely Kancheepuram, Theni and Villupuram. The project is being further scaled across the state, where the teachers undergo training of using the inclusive curriculum techniques in the classroom. A pilot group of teachers is also undergoing Beta testing of the RedFlag app, giving them an opportunity to screen and identify the at-risk students and help them link to the relevant government schemes.

In February 2022, Sol's ARC, in partnership with Samagra Shiksha, held an online course on 'Building Inclusive Classrooms.'

We attended the Building Inclusive Classrooms course provided by Sol's ARC. In this training, we were given four basic steps to follow. What exactly is an inclusive classroom? It was emphasised that not just children with impairments, but also children with varied learning styles and skills, are present in an inclusive classroom, and that instructors should pay greater attention to such students. Children are unable of remaining focused for longer than 10 minutes. Then they begin to bother the others. The training gave us easy techniques for capturing every child's attention. Only a few youngsters receive spoken instructions. Many people do not follow them. When spoken instructions are presented with written words or images on the board, the youngsters will remember the visual, which will aid in their memory of the words. This method makes recall simple.

They also instructed on sight word approaches. This strategy will assist the youngster in learning the word, its spelling, meaning, and forming a phrase. Dodging with one's fingers will assist children comprehend spelling and where letters go where in a word. This strategy will help them recall the word spelling. We were also given classroom management skills. Following the instruction, we were assigned an activity. We must implement the methods in the classroom. During the course, I was exposed to the techniques. I used the exercise in my classroom. The blackboard division revealed to me that youngsters are willing to learn using this approach. This training is quite beneficial to us.
